You don’t need a paid plan to try Google’s AI video models. Google Flow, the AI filmmaking tool from Google Labs, gives every eligible Google account 50 free credits a day. That’s enough for up to five short videos of 4–8 seconds, depending on the model you pick. Here’s how the free credits work, what they buy you, and how to get the most out of them.
Quick answer
- Free credits: 50 per day with a regular Google account, no subscription needed.
- Refresh: your next 50 arrive the day after your first generation. Unused credits don’t roll over.
- Most videos per day: 5 clips with Veo 3.1 Lite (10 credits each, 4, 6 or 8 seconds).
- Best quality on the free tier: Veo 3.1 Fast, 2 clips a day (20 credits each).
- Not possible on the free tier: Veo 3.1 Quality costs 100 credits per clip, more than a full day’s allowance.
- Watch out for: peak hours of roughly 2–5 PM UTC, when free accounts may not be able to generate video.
What is Google Flow?
Flow is Google’s browser-based tool for making short AI video clips with Google’s Veo and Gemini Omni models. You can turn a text prompt into a video, animate a starting image, and extend a clip into a longer scene. It runs in the browser at labs.google/fx/tools/flow, and Google recommends a desktop Chromium browser such as Chrome or Edge.
What 50 free credits get you
| Model | Credits per clip | Clip length | Clips per day (50 credits) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veo 3.1 Lite | 10 | 4, 6 or 8 s | 5 |
| Veo 3.1 Fast | 20 | 4, 6 or 8 s | 2 |
| Veo 3.1 Quality | 100 | 8 s | 0 (needs a paid plan) |
| Gemini Omni Flash, 720p | 7 / 10 / 12 / 15 | 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 s | up to 4 at 8 s |
| Gemini Omni Flash, 360p | 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 | 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 s | up to 8 at 8 s |

For most creators, the sweet spot is five 6–8 second clips with Veo 3.1 Lite, or a mix: one Fast clip for your best idea plus three Lite clips for the rest.
Who can use the free credits?
- You need a Google account and must be 18 or older. Flow asks you to verify your age.
- You must be in a supported country. Google keeps the list on its Flow Help pages, and a VPN won’t unlock unsupported regions.
- Use a desktop browser. Flow is built for Chrome or Edge on a computer.
How to make your first free AI video
- Go to labs.google/fx/tools/flow and sign in with your Google account.
- Create a new project.
- Pick your model. Choose Veo 3.1 Lite if you want to stretch your 50 credits as far as possible.
- Write your prompt: describe the subject, the action, the setting, the camera move and the mood in one or two sentences.
- Choose the clip length (4, 6 or 8 seconds) and the shape. Pick vertical if it’s offered and you’re making Shorts, Reels or TikToks.
- Generate, review, and download the clip you like.
5 tips to get more out of your free credits
- Write the prompt before you open Flow. Every attempt costs credits, so plan the shot first: who, doing what, where, camera, lighting.
- Draft with Lite, finish with Fast. Test an idea cheaply, then spend 20 credits only on the version you’ll post.
- Avoid peak hours. Free accounts may be blocked from video generation between about 2 and 5 PM UTC. Convert that to your local time and plan around it.
- Generate early in your day. Credits refresh the day after your first generation, so starting at a similar time each day keeps your routine predictable.
- Think in 8-second scenes. Short-form videos are built from quick cuts, so a few 6–8 second clips edited together often beat one long clip.
Watermarks, ownership and posting AI videos
- Invisible watermark: every video made with Veo or Gemini Omni carries an invisible SynthID watermark that identifies it as AI-generated.
- Visible watermark: optional, and you can switch it in your profile settings. Google adds it automatically for users in India, South Korea and Vietnam.
- Ownership: Google says it won’t claim ownership of the original content you generate, but your use is governed by Google’s terms, so read them before using clips commercially.
- Disclose realistic AI content. YouTube asks creators to label realistic altered or synthetic content when they upload, and other platforms have similar rules.
Getting your AI clips ready to post
Once you have your clips, a few free tools help you finish them:
- Check your text placement. Captions near the bottom or right edge often end up under TikTok, Reels or Shorts buttons. Preview your frame with the Safe Zone Previewer.
- Time your voiceover. Paste your script into the Word-to-Time Calculator to see whether it fits your clip length.
- Make the thumbnail. Test your cover image in a realistic feed with the YouTube Thumbnail Tester.
Frequently asked questions
Is Google Flow really free?
Yes, within limits. A Google account without a subscription gets 50 Flow credits a day. Paid Google AI plans add more monthly credits, higher resolution and the Quality model.
How many free AI videos can I make per day?
Up to five with Veo 3.1 Lite (10 credits each), two with Veo 3.1 Fast (20 credits each), or up to eight short 360p clips with Gemini Omni Flash.
Do unused credits carry over?
No. Unused daily credits don’t roll over, so use them or lose them.
Why can’t I generate a video right now?
The most common reasons are peak hours (about 2–5 PM UTC, when free accounts may be paused), being in an unsupported country, or having used your 50 credits for the day.
Can I use Google Flow videos on YouTube or TikTok?
Generally yes, but follow Google’s terms and each platform’s rules for labelling realistic AI-generated content.
