How to convert an image to SVG

  1. Add your image. Drop a PNG, JPEG or WebP file into the box, or click to choose one.
  2. Pick what you are converting. Logo / icon for flat-color graphics, Line art / B&W for signatures, sketches and single-color cut files, Illustration for more detailed artwork, or Photo for a poster-style effect.
  3. Fine-tune the colors. Fewer colors give cleaner shapes. Click any color in the palette to leave it out — handy for removing a drop shadow or a stray edge color.
  4. Compare and download. Use Side by side to check the result against your original, then download the SVG. Need a regular image too? Download PNG (4×) gives you a large, sharp copy.
Watch: a blurry 225 px JPG logo turned into a clean SVG, step by step.

Converting JPG to vector (JPEG to SVG)

JPG files convert just like PNGs. Keep Smoothness on Smooth: it cleans up JPG compression specks and in-between edge shades automatically, and Remove the background makes your SVG transparent. For a full walkthrough, see our JPG to vector converter.

Tip: if you have the logo as both PNG and JPG, use the PNG. It has cleaner edges, so you’ll get smoother curves.

What converts well (and what doesn’t)

A vector tracer looks for areas of the same color and draws smooth outlines around them. That is why the type of image matters more than any setting:

  • Great results: logos with flat colors, icons, text logos, signatures, stickers, clip art and hand-drawn line art scanned or photographed in good light.
  • Good results: illustrations with soft shading — gradients turn into bands of color, which often looks intentional.
  • Poster-style results: photos. Every tracer, free or paid, turns a photo into flat color shapes. Great as an art effect, not as a copy of the photo.
  • Weak results: tiny or blurry images. Under roughly 300 pixels wide, fine details have to be guessed, so always start from the biggest original you have.

Tips for a cleaner SVG

  • Use the largest, sharpest version of your image — a 2000-pixel PNG beats a 300-pixel JPG saved from social media.
  • Most logos only have 2–6 colors. Lower the Colors slider until the result stops changing.
  • Geometric logo with slightly wobbly edges? Switch Edges to Sharp corners.
  • Raise Ignore specks to clean up dust, scanner noise and JPEG artifacts.
  • The background is removed only where it touches the edge of the image, so white areas inside your logo stay white. If part of your design touches the edge and disappears, untick Remove the background.
  • Cutting with a Cricut or laser? Use Line art / B&W for a single-color cut file and move the cut-off slider until thin lines stay solid.

What is an SVG, and why use one?

SVG is a vector format: instead of millions of pixels it stores shapes as math, so it stays perfectly sharp whether you print it on a business card or a banner. SVG files are usually much smaller than large PNGs, you can change their colors in seconds, and they open in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, Affinity Designer, Canva and Cricut Design Space, and are accepted by most print-on-demand sites and website builders.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image to vector converter really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark on the result and no daily limit.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The tracing engine runs inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your file never leaves your device.

Which formats can I convert?

You can upload PNG, JPEG or WebP images. You can download the result as an SVG vector file, as a large PNG (4× the original size), or copy the SVG code straight into your website or design tool.

Can I use the SVG with Cricut or for print on demand?

Yes. The SVG opens in Cricut Design Space and other cutting software, and works for print-on-demand uploads. For single-color cuts choose Line art / B&W. Just make sure you own the rights to the artwork you convert.

How do I get a transparent background?

Keep Remove the background ticked (it is on by default for logos). The background color around the edges of your image is removed, and the SVG is saved with a transparent background.

Why does my photo look like a poster?

Vectors are made of flat color shapes, so a photo with millions of subtle shades gets simplified into the number of colors you choose. Raise the Colors slider and use High detail for a more detailed look, or lower it for a bold, graphic style.
