Choosing the right reading pace

Most people speak between 110 and 170 words per minute, depending on delivery style and content type:

• Slower (110 wpm) — deliberate, calm delivery: tutorials, narration, meditative or ASMR-style content
• Average (140 wpm) — natural conversational pace: vlogs, talking-head videos, most YouTube content
• Faster (170 wpm) — energetic, fast-cut delivery: hype content, short-form video, high-energy commentary

Does this account for pauses or breaks in a script? No — it calculates based on continuous reading at your selected pace. If your script has long pauses, visual-only sections, or B-roll with no narration, add extra time on top of the estimate manually.
