Rename one image or hundreds of files at once, right in your browser. Give them a clean new name with numbers, remove junk like “Gemini_Generated_Image_” or “IMG_”, add dates, or turn every name into an SEO-friendly one. Your files are copied byte-for-byte, so there’s no quality loss, and nothing is ever uploaded.
Bulk rename
Rename one file or hundreds at once. Files are copied exactly, with no quality loss.
Your original files aren’t changed: you get renamed copies, byte-for-byte identical, so there’s no quality loss. Websites can’t rename files on your computer directly, which is why every online renamer works with copies.
How to bulk rename images
- Drop your images, or any other files, into the box. Add as many as you like.
- Choose New name + numbers to give every file the same name with a number (for example retro-sunset-01.png, retro-sunset-02.png), or Keep names & edit them to fix the existing names with find & replace.
- Add text before or after, pick the numbering style and separator, and add a date if you need one.
- Tick SEO-friendly names for lowercase names with hyphens and no special characters.
- Check the before → after list, then click Download all as ZIP. In Chrome or Edge on a computer you can also choose Save into a folder.
What you can do with it
| Task | How |
|---|---|
| Clean up AI image names | Keep names & edit them → find Gemini_Generated_Image_, leave “replace” empty |
| Number a photo shoot | New name + numbers → “wedding-anna”, numbers 001, 002… |
| Sort photos by date | Add a date → Date photo was taken, order → By date taken |
| Get names ready for a website, Etsy or Redbubble | Tick SEO-friendly names |
| Fix .JPG vs .jpg | Keep Lowercase file extensions ticked |
Why SEO-friendly image names matter
Search engines read your file names. A name like retro-sunset-tshirt-design.png tells Google what the image shows, while Gemini_Generated_Image_k3j9x2.png or IMG_4821.jpg tells it nothing. Short, descriptive names with hyphens also look tidier when people download your images, and they work everywhere: no spaces, accents or symbols that can break links. Greek names are converted too, so Φωτογραφία Παραλία.jpg becomes fotografia-paralia.jpg.
Your files stay private and untouched
- No upload: renaming happens on your own device.
- No quality loss: the renamed copies are identical to the originals, byte for byte. Images aren’t re-saved or compressed.
- Your originals stay as they are: websites can’t rename files on your computer directly, so you get renamed copies. Every online renamer works this way.
Need to resize, compress or watermark your images too? Post Prep does it all in one pass, including renaming. To remove hidden GPS location data without changing anything else, use the Metadata Remover.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rename files other than images?
Yes. The tool works with any file type: PDFs, videos, documents and more.
Is there a limit on how many files I can rename?
There’s no set limit. Very large batches are only limited by your device’s memory when the ZIP is created; if that happens, rename them in smaller groups.
Does renaming change the image quality?
No. The file contents are copied exactly; only the name changes.
What happens if two files end up with the same name?
The tool adds a number to the repeat (for example -2) and highlights it, so no file is lost or overwritten.
Is it free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark and no limits.
